ohh Tewatia! Chasing down a unimaginable total is just Tewatia things. He did it once more and told everyone that it wasn’t a fluke the first time. He batted so magnificently with Parag for a partnership of 80 odd runs that too when they were down to 78 for 5. That is quality, Rahul Tewatia’s quality. He didn’t even spared Rashid Khan and scored three consecutive boundaries off him. Riyan Parag too batted beautifully in that partnership. Before that SRH did well to get to that total on that slightly slower Dubai wicket and they were in control for the most of the RR innings but in the last 4 or 5 overs they lost control as Tewatia did what he does best.

David Warner | SRH skipper: Unfortunately, we couldn’t cross the line there, but that’s what happens in cricket. We got two guys that are set and taking it deep, it’s always hard to control. It’s good to see good battle out there, credit to the way he (Tewatia) played. He came out and played his shots and played very brave and got his team across the line. We have done it in the past where we have held him (Rashid Khan) back and obviously these two guys (Parag and Tewatia) played exceptionally well and obviously there was a  dropped chance out there which we try to take every day of the week but that’s what happens in the game of cricket. I think that (pitches slowing down) sort of suits our bowling attack, tonight some of our decisions at the top of the mark just weren’t there and we probably bowled the wrong ball at times. There is a lot of positives from this game for us and we will take that on into the next game. As these wickets get tired out we need to plan how to approach the first six overs and through the middle and then obviously assess with our bowling. We got some power in the middle-order and we thought Vijay with the big boundaries here would offer us something with the ball and obviously he’s an established cricket player as well.

Steve Smith | RR captain: It’s IPL, it’s T20, it happens quite a bit. Really proud of the way the boys finished off. Rahul and Riyan – as a young kid – showed great composure. Played some great cricket shots. Fortunately got us over the line and back to winning ways. Stokesy didn’t come off tonight unfortunately. Again our top three, top four, didn’t fire. So it’s nice to win a game when that doesn’t happen. Shows our depth. Once we start scoring some runs, it’ll make things easier. With Stokesy back, it brings a nice balance to us. He just bowled one over today as he just got out of lockdown yesterday and is just working back into things. Tough to change a winning team isn’t it at times. He’s been impressive hasn’t he (Tewatia). Just thrives in those pressure situations. Then you bring his bowling and fielding to the table, he’s a terrific player for us. Hopefully we don’t leave too many for him in the future. He was magnificent (Parag). It wasn’t the easiest wicket. Was a bit slow and the square boundaries here are quite big too. He was busy at the start of his innings which we wanted him to be. And then we’ve seen how powerful and innovative he is with the different shots he can play. Proud of him that he could come back in and score some runs straight up. Hopefully it sets him up for a good finish to this IPL.

No doubt Rahul Tewatia is the man of the match.
