This was a convincing performance from Mumbai Indians first with the bat and then with the ball. The start which MI got to wasn’t ideal as Quinny departed for a duck in the first over of the game and the Surya getting run out inside the powerplay. Last game’s star for Mumbai Ishan Kishan also struggled with the bat as he scored a slow 28 of 32 balls. But Rohit Sharma at the other end held his cool under pressure and once he got to his fifty then he unleashed the hell on KXIP . When he got out Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya took over the carnage and scored 89 of the last 4 overs and 104 of the last 5 overs. It was absolute carnage as they took a full toll of the lame death bowling of KXIP and took the total to 191.

KXIP were in control of the game till 13 or 14 overs in the first inning. But it was the arrival of the inform Kieron Pollard which inspired them to get to a big total. KXIP started the inning with a bit of flourish as Mayank and Rahul took advantage of some bad bowling by Trent Boult. But after that Jasprit Gumrah came into the attack and changed the dynamics of the game as he took account of Mayank’s wicket. And after that they never really recovered. For KXIP misfiring Maxwell is a big problem as they bank on him too much in that middle order. For MI it was a complete dominance as the batsman scored the runs and the out of form looking Krunal pandya bowled brilliantly and took a wicket. So this will give Mumbai’s bowlers a boost.

KL Rahul | KXIP captain:¬†Obviously disappointing. Looking back, we could’ve been three wins out of four. This game, we made some mistakes. Important we come back stronger. Wicket looked good with the new ball. Don’t know if it slowed up after that. Another bowling option would be nice – an all-rounder option who can bat and bowl well. Will be sitting with the coaches to decide if we want to play an extra bowler. Until and unless that orange cap stays with Kings XI I’m happy. He’s (Agarwal) worked very hard and deserves that cap. I’m sure I’ll take it off him soon.

Rohit Sharma | MI captain: Was a great win. We didn’t start really well, but we always knew with the kind of attack Punjab had we wanted to capitalize. Those two guys they back themselves to get the runs, it’s nice to have them in form as well. It wasn’t going to be easy with the ball against KXIP’s batting line-up. We knew we had to get early wickets and everything went to plan, credit to the bowlers. In the last game the execution wasn’t exactly right at the death with the ball. So we discussed and wanted to improve. I haven’t played enough with Boult and Pattinson, so it’s difficult to get them on the same page. They have now got an idea of what I need from them and I have got to know them better too. Feels nice to get the runs, but the two points matter more.

Kieron Pollard is the man of the match.
