MI VS RR : MATCH REVIEW

MI VS RR : MATCH REVIEW

This was a perfect win for MI. Batting first they put on a pretty good total on the board and then their bowling defends that total so skillfully that only MI could have done it. They had a tad bit of blip as they sent Krunal ahead of Hardik and Pollard but they recovered on the back of a stellar innings from Surya Kumar Yadav. SKY who was in need of runs this season also got runs and in what fashion, he outscored Hardik at the back end of the inning such was the impact of that inning. The thing which impressed most the cricket fraternity or whoever was watching that what happened on 18.4 and 18.5 when Surya was batting. On 18.4 he got hit by a Jofra bouncer, that same bouncer that has taken down the likes of Steve Smith, he was down and shaken but on the next ball he hits Jofra for a six that too on a reverse lap shot. That was some courageous batting. That tells the character of the man Surya Kumar Yadav.

In reply RR had a horrible start and lost 3 wickets in 3 overs. Truth to be told they were never in the chase. Only Jos Buttler stood their on the crease but it was only minimising the damage as he ran out of partners. The only positive that they can take from it is Jos Buttler who scored a good fifty and Shreyash Gopal who bowled a brilliant spell. RR made three changes into this game but it didn’t work. Maybe Ben Stokes addition into the playing eleven may boost their morale.

Steve Smith | Losing captain: I think losing wickets early doesn’t help, we haven’t been able to get off to a good start in the last three games. Outside of Jos and Archer at the end, we have a bit of work to do on our batting. He (Stokes) is not out till the 10th I think. He is not too far away, hopefully we can get a few wins before he’s back and then gain momentum. I don’t think we need to panic too much, it is just about implementing our plans and playing some good cricket for longer. We haven’t been able to do that in the last three games and we have to turn it around quickly. Hopefully get a bit of momentum.

Rohit Sharma | Winning captain: We strive to be out there and play well. We have a lot of quality and it’s about getting the job done. They all have a lot of confidence. They’re all talented and they can take the game away on their day and it’s all falling into place. The conditions are helpful here for the quick bowlers. It was nipping around to start with and it’s good to have bowlers who can exploit the conditions. We also worked a lot on our fielding, because it’s one of the controllables in the game and we made it a point to do that well. A good Surya innings was coming, I spoke to him before the game, and his shot selection was perfect today. We wanted him to bat till the end because he can innovate rather well.

Surya Kumar Yadav is the man of the match.
